2005: The Year in Action!

Tim Copley, active supporters unit manager, reviews last year's actions:

Huge thanks to all of you for making 2005 another very successful campaigning year! Your time, energy and commitment enabled us to achieve some significant results.

Our climate campaign moved up a gear as we signed up thousands of new activists, stopped trading for a day at the International Petroleum Exchange, and shut down production of the gas guzzling Range Rover Sport. Working closely with climate campaigners we've continued to support onshore and offshore windfarm projects through the Yes2Wind Network.

In support of the ancient forests campaign, our investigations and direct actions exposed garden centres and DIY stores using timber illegally and unsustainably logged from ancient forests. We also took the message to DEFRA in the form of a symbolic blockade.

We continued to campaign against Sainsbury's to get them to ensure the milk they sell comes from cows fed a GM free diet, and 13 volunteers who stopped a boatload of GM grain entering Bristol docks were acquitted of any wrongdoing at their trial in Cardiff.

In support of the oceans campaign we continued to highlight the scale of destruction caused by commercial fishing fleets on dolphin and porpoise populations in the North East Atlantic, and launched our campaign for supermarkets to adopt responsible purchasing polcies, turning our attentions on Asda as the worst culprit.

Many thanks for all your incredible hard work and support - bring on 2006!.
